7 Wedding Trends of 2012
We’re already halfway through 2012 and the weddings so far have been spectacular! I’ve compiled a list of the top 7 trends for 2012 and the best word to describe them is FUN! This is the year of the creative, personalized, and energetic wedding. Take a look at the list and let me know if you’ve seen any of these ideas in person.
The photo booth trend has been around for several years now, but the newest photo trend is flipbooks. Remember when you were a kid and you would draw a little figure in the bottom corner pages and then flip through it so it looked like it was animated? Well that’s the same concept behind flipbooks. Your guests are filmed for 30 seconds and then the video is spliced into still images and bound together. When you flip the pages, you can “watch” your friends’ and family’s antics! Also, the guests get a copy of their books to take home, so this is a great way to combine entertainment and favors.
The flowers for the groom and groomsmen have traditionally been a small detail that required little thought. Whatever the main flowers in the bouquets were, the boutonnieres were made out of and that was that. However, this is no longer the case. Boutonnieres are now being made out of interesting items that have some meaning to the couple or the groomsmen. Guitar picks, fishing lures, and climbing rope are just a few examples of modern boutonniere ingredients that can be found on Etsy. In case you don’t believe me, here are some pictures:
The last few years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of dessert bars at weddings. The newest take on this trend is decorate-your-own dessert. This new dessert idea lets guests create their own version of your dessert of choice. Some delicious possibilities are brownies or cookies with sprinkles, icing, and other delectable toppings for your guests to choose from!
Brides this year are taking their cue from Kate and Bella when choosing wedding dresses. Lace and long sleeves are everywhere! However, the key to the sleeves is that they are light and romantic, not made of heavy or opaque fabrics.
Another great trend is video trailers. These can be sent out as save-the-dates and give guests some fun insight into the couple. Oftentimes, wedding guests know the bride or groom, not the bride and groom as a couple. Video trailers are a great way for guests to learn a little about the couple before the big day and a fun alternative to traditional save-the-dates.
Bachelor and bachelorette parties aren’t new, however, what is new is what the bridal party does at the parties. The recent trend is to have experience/adventure fueled getaways. For example, bachelor parties are now giving the groom-to-be and his friends a chance to drive racecars or work at a dude ranch. For bachelorettes, a fresh new way to celebrate with your girls is to enroll in Stiletto Spy School. They have classes in New York and Vegas and teach students how to be James Bond-esque femme fatales.
According to Pantone, the color of 2012 is tangerine tango. This vibrant reddish-orange is everywhere right now, including weddings! For a bride looking to make a statement, this color looks great on bridesmaids dresses, linens, and flowers For a subtler way to incorporate the color of the year, brides can use tangerine tango for shoes, signature drinks, or even nails.
